Air India steps up plans to mitigate passenger inconvenience
11 May, 2012
Air India is putting in to place a sustainable contingency plan to mitigate the inconvenience caused to the passengers due to its pilot's agitation which had led to a spate of cancellations of its international schedule. The schedule will soon be formalized and set in to motion. To address the issue of inadequate pilots available for flying duties of wide bodied aircraft, Air India is also looking at wet leasing opportunities for another four to five flights.
Air India has been making all efforts to operate its flights and has also rescheduled some of its operations to minimize inconvenience to its passengers. Passengers have also been endorsed to other airlines as far as possible. In view of the disruptions, Air India has also waived off penalties on refund, cancellations, date change and rebooking for passengers booked to travel up to May 14, 2012.
The agitation launched by a section of Air India pilots belonging to Indian Pilots' Guild (IPG) continued to affect international operations of the airline, even as the airline's domestic flights remained unaffected and continued to be operated as per schedule on Friday, May 11, 2012.
Today flights from Delhi to London, Chicago, New York, Toronto, Frankfurt, Paris, Hong Kong, Osaka and from Mumbai to Jeddah, London and Newark were cancelled.
Taking a serious view of the situation, Air India has terminated the services of a total of 25 pilots today.
