High Court Declares Air India Strike Illegal
May 9, 2012
In view of the continued agitation by pilots belonging to IPG, Air India today approached the Delhi High Court requesting it to consider declaring the strike as illegal. The Delhi High Court has upheld our view and has today in its order declared this agitation to be an illegal strike. Further, the Hon'ble High Court of Delhi has also issued orders, restraining the pilots from continuing with the illegal strike and reporting sick or staging demonstrations, dharnas, gheraos etc. inside and outside the premises of the Air India located at the Airports, Terminals, Head offices and all other offices of Air India including the residence of the officers of the company.
Accordingly, Air India is once again advising all pilots who have refused to undertake flying duties in the last few days to report to work.
The continuation of such illegal activities will be in contempt of court orders.
Air India is hopeful that the striking pilots will now see reason and report back for flying duties immediately. This will enable Air India to begin normalising its operations at the earliest.
Also Air India has today dismissed from service 26 pilots who had taken mass sick leave that had led to disruption of flights on the 4th of May and on 7th of May, 2012. This is in addition to the dismissal from services of 10 office bearers of the IPG two days ago.
